Meet Mrs. Johnson...
Hello! My name is Tara Johnson and this will be my 15th teaching here at NEMS! I taught 4 years in Kindergarten, two years in 3rd grade, and this year will be my ninth in 5th grade. I graduated Concord University in 2005 with my Elementary Education K-6 degree. I also graduated in 2015 with my Master's degree in Educational Leadership & Administration from Concord University located in Athens, West Virginia.
My husband, Kelly, is a school bus driver in a neighboring county. We have been married for 18 years. During the day, much of his time is occupied by the daily operations of our 70 acre farm located in Ballard, West Virginia. We have two amazing kiddos, Paul, 15, and Addyson, 12.
I am a proud product of Giles County. I graduated from Narrows High School prior to attending college. I have had several influential teachers and coaches while on my educational journey who illustrated to me the qualities of an effective and caring teacher. I foster high expectations for all students and a love of learning.
I also coach the Middle School Girl's basketball team at Narrows High School. I enjoy watching the players grow and develop, not only their basketball skills, but also their life skills, throughout the season. Determination, perseverance, and attitudes can affect events both on the court and in life.
I enjoy reading and teaching reading. I love introducing students to authors like Louis Sachar, Gary Paulsen, Sharon Creech and Roald Dahl. I am very excited to spread my love of reading and writing to my students.
I cannot wait to work with you!
